Bambu Lab P1S vs A1 Combo: Which Should You Buy?
Bambu Lab P1S vs A1 is an enclosed 256 mm CoreXY against the full-size open A1 we score, the A1 Combo with AMS Lite in the box. Take the P1S for the shell. Take the Combo for multi-color at a lower tracked price. We do not score a bare A1.

Bambu Lab P1S vs A1: shell or AMS Lite
This page is Bambu Lab P1S vs A1, not a best-printer roundup. The A1 in that question is the full-size machine. The only full-size A1 we score is the A1 Combo, with AMS Lite in the box. We do not score a bare A1, and the A1 Mini is a smaller related machine. Check the live price before you treat the gap as $150. The P1S is about $549 (price checked Sep 2026), and combo pricing varies. The A1 Combo is about $399 (price checked Sep 2026), and prices change often, so check the live price on Amazon. The Amazon button on each card is the affiliate link already stored on that scorecard. A broader shortlist, when this pair is not the question, is Best 3D Printers 2026.
Buy the P1S when the closed shell is why you are here, and one material at a time is acceptable. The bed is 256 × 256 × 256 mm, the same cube as the Combo. Ease of use is 9.6/10. The motion system is an enclosed CoreXY, so the bed stays put. AMS is optional. We do not list a filter on the P1S card. A shared wall that needs the shell is the apartment enclosure guide. How this open Combo compares with an enclosed K1C is A1 Combo vs K1C.
Buy the A1 Combo when multi-color is a day-one requirement, and you will print PLA or careful PETG on an open bench. AMS Lite is included. Ease of use is 9.4/10. Value is 8.8/10, a hair above the P1S at 8.7/10, and that is a price score, not a polish score. You give up the door. Drafts and ABS are still the wrong job. The smaller bed against this Combo is A1 Combo vs A1 Mini. How the Combo sits inside a $500 ceiling, with the P1S as the step-up, is the best 3D printer under 500 page.
P1S and A1 Combo at a glance
Every printer below is already scored in our FDM guide. Roles here are for this question, not a second lab test.

Bambu Lab P1S
$349 typical $399, combo pricing varies
The Bambu Lab P1S is the buy when the closed shell is the requirement. About $549 (price checked Sep 2026), combo pricing varies, overall 9.3/10, ease of use 9.6/10, print quality 9.4/10, durability 8.8/10. Enclosed CoreXY, 256 × 256 × 256 mm, AMS optional. We do not list a HEPA filter on this scorecard. The bed matches the A1 Combo. The open frame and the included color unit are the Combo's job.

Bambu Lab A1 Combo
$359 Combo with AMS Lite, typical $399
The Bambu Lab A1 Combo is the full-size A1 we score, and the buy when AMS Lite should be in the box. About $399 (price checked Sep 2026), prices change often, so check the live price on Amazon, overall 9.0/10, ease of use 9.4/10, print quality 9.1/10, value 8.8/10. Open bed-slinger, 256 × 256 × 256 mm, AMS Lite included. We do not score a bare full-size A1 without AMS Lite. The frame is open, so drafts and ABS are the wrong job.

Bambu Lab A1 Mini
$199 typical $219
Leave this page if 180 mm and one color are enough. The A1 Mini is $299, 9.0/10, ease of use 9.5/10, an open 180 × 180 × 180 mm bed. AMS Lite is optional on that card, not included. It is the smaller related machine, not the full-size A1, and it does not settle P1S vs A1 Combo.
Bambu Lab P1S

$349 typical $399, combo pricing varies
Check price on AmazonThe Bambu Lab P1S is the buy when the closed shell is the requirement.
The P1S is the sweet spot in Bambu’s lineup: enclosed CoreXY speed, automatic calibration, and optional AMS multi-color without jumping to flagship pricing. It is the appliance experience (send a file, get a part) that made consumer FDM explode.

Bambu Lab A1 Combo
The Bambu Lab A1 Combo is the full-size A1 we score, and the buy when AMS Lite should be in the box. Open bed-slinger, 256 × 256 × 256 mm, AMS Lite included. We do not score a bare full-size A1 without AMS Lite. The frame is open, so drafts and ABS are the wrong job.
People who have outgrown the A1 Mini's 180 mm cube and want AMS Lite included.
The lower price is already the A1 Combo
There is no cheaper full-size printer on this page. The A1 Combo is about $399 (price checked Sep 2026), $150 under the P1S at $549, and that gap is AMS Lite on an open frame against an enclosed CoreXY with AMS optional. A sale can close the gap. A cheaper P1S is still the enclosed machine. A bare full-size A1 is a listing we are not scoring. If the part fits 180 mm, the A1 Mini at $299 is the smaller related machine, not the tie-breaker on this page. If the cap is the whole question, use the under-$500 guide.
P1S vs A1 Combo
Price bands are the published prices in the FDM guide (price checked Sep 2026). Build volume and ease of use come from those scorecards. Enclosed means the printer ships with a closed shell. Prices change often, so check the live price on Amazon. We earn a small commission when you buy through our Amazon links, at no extra cost to you.

Buy the P1S if you want the shell
Take the P1S when the part has to stay one material, the room is drafty, or the filament does not like an open bench. The scorecard is an enclosed CoreXY with automatic calibration and optional AMS. Overall is 9.3/10. Durability is 8.8/10. Print quality is 9.4/10. The Bambu Lab P1S scorecard is the spec sheet. We do not list AMS in the $549 price, so do not buy this card expecting a color unit in the box.
The shell is a draft door, not a filtered heated chamber. We do not list HEPA or carbon filtration. Smell in a small apartment can still be a problem, and a closed box is not a person watching the printer. The scorecard says the Combo loses to the P1S on enclosure, rigidity, and materials that want a closed chamber. That is the split. It is not a claim that the P1S is a quiet printer, and it is not a claim that every engineering spool will be boring.
Buy the A1 Combo if you want AMS Lite
Take the A1 Combo when the picture in your head has more than one color, or you want a second spool for a support material the open frame can actually print. The card we score is the Combo: the 256 mm bed-slinger plus AMS Lite, about $399 (price checked Sep 2026). Overall is 9.0/10. Ease of use is 9.4/10. The Bambu Lab A1 Combo scorecard is the spec sheet. A listing that is only a bare A1 is a different product, and we do not score it.
AMS Lite is the multi-color path on this page. Color changes still waste filament. The frame under it is open. The scorecard says it keeps the A1 Mini's full-auto calibration. It does not keep the Mini's 180 mm cube, and it does not add a door. If the bench is the constraint and the part fits 180 mm, that is the Mini, not a reason to skip the shell you already decided you need.
Speed, noise, and the same 256 mm bed
The P1S card lists a speed class up to about 500 mm/s. The A1 Combo card does not list a speed class, and we do not list a timed benchy for either, so Bambu Lab P1S vs A1 does not have a speed winner here. The practical difference is the motion system. The P1S is a CoreXY: the bed stays put, which is the stabler way to keep a tall part clean at speed. The A1 Combo is a bed-slinger: the bed moves, and that mass is why an advertised class on another machine and a clean tall print are not the same number.
Neither scorecard lists a decibel figure, so this page does not call a quieter printer. The Combo's scorecard describes the Mini's quiet manners on a larger open bed. That is not a measured number, and an enclosure can take the edge off airborne noise from the P1S without turning a speed-class CoreXY into a quiet desk machine. The only noise class we publish in this FDM set is the A1 Mini, at a ≤48 dB class. Do not borrow that number for the P1S or the Combo.
The bed is a tie: 256 × 256 × 256 mm on both cards. If the part does not fit 256 mm, neither machine on this page is the answer. If the part fits and it needs a door, the Combo's matching millimeters do not close the frame. If the part fits 180 mm and one spool is the plan, the Mini is the related machine, and this tie is the wrong page.
Filament: a closed box, or AMS Lite on an open bench
The P1S is the more flexible material machine on this page, and the less flexible color machine at the published price (price checked Sep 2026). The enclosure makes ABS and other draft-sensitive filament more realistic than on an open bench. It is still not a filtered chamber. AMS is optional, so multi-color is a different listing and a different price. We do not score that bundle here.
The A1 Combo is the more flexible color machine, and the less flexible material machine. AMS Lite runs multiple spools, which is how you print several colors or park a second material for supports. Those spools still have to be filaments an open bed-slinger can print. PLA is the default. Careful PETG is reasonable if the spool is dry. ABS is the wrong job. A dryer, on the filament dryer guide, is the later buy for PETG or a spool that has sat open. A PLA film, a 257 mm plate, or a draft tent for the open Combo is the accessories guide. None of those picks the printer. A tent does not turn the Combo into the P1S, and you should not put one over the enclosed P1S.
Beginner fit, and the smaller Mini
Both full-size machines are close on the first week. Ease of use is 9.6/10 on the P1S and 9.4/10 on the A1 Combo. The P1S adds the door. The Combo adds AMS Lite, which is another unit to learn if multi-color is not actually the requirement. Buy the Combo as a first printer when multi-color, or the 256 mm bed, is the reason. If the first week has to be a small single-color desk, that is the A1 Mini at $299 and 9.5/10 ease of use. The unbox path for a Mini you already own is the A1 Mini setup guide. That guide is a different printer. It is not a reason to buy the P1S or the Combo.
Reliability is a vibe we can score, not a warranty we can invent. Durability is 8.8/10 on the P1S and 8.4/10 on the A1 Combo. The P1S card notes a spare-parts philosophy that differs from Prusa, and a design that is more closed than open-source machines. That is not a promise of perfect batches, and we do not publish support-ticket times for either machine. The Combo's weak spot in our notes is the open frame, not a missing calibration routine.
Affiliate disclosure
3DPrintersRank does not sell printers. The Check price on Amazon button uses the affiliate link already stored on that scorecard. We may earn a commission if you buy, and we do not set the price. The table shows the published price (price checked Sep 2026). Amazon shows the price you would pay today. We do not score a bare full-size A1, so there is no button for that listing.

Who should skip these printers
Skip the P1S if AMS Lite has to be in the box
At the published $549 (price checked Sep 2026), AMS is optional and combo pricing varies. Ease of use is 9.6/10 inside a closed shell. Multi-color on day one is the A1 Combo at about $399 (price checked Sep 2026), with ease of use 9.4/10, and you accept the open frame. We do not list an included color unit on the P1S card.
Skip the A1 Combo if you already need a closed shell
AMS Lite and a 256 mm bed do not close the frame. Drafts, ABS, and a shared wall that cares about smell are the P1S at about $549 (price checked Sep 2026). A fabric tent is not that enclosure. We do not list a HEPA filter on the P1S either.
Skip the A1 Mini if you opened this page for a 256 mm bed
The Mini is 180 mm in each direction, about $299 (price checked Sep 2026), and it is the smaller related machine. It does not make the P1S enclosed, and it does not replace the Combo when the part needs 256 mm or AMS Lite in the box.
Who it's not for
People who want a bare full-size A1 without AMS Lite. We do not score that listing, so this page has no button for it. It is also the wrong page for a small single-color desk, which is the A1 Mini at $299, and for a filtered enclosure that has to stay near $500, which is the AD5M Pro on the enclosed under-$500 guide. This page is an enclosed 256 mm CoreXY against the open full-size A1 with AMS Lite included.
Frequently asked questions
- Bambu Lab P1S vs A1: which should I buy?
- The P1S if you want the enclosed CoreXY. It is about $549 (price checked Sep 2026), combo pricing varies, and 9.3/10. The A1 Combo if you want AMS Lite included on an open 256 mm bed. The Combo is about $399 (price checked Sep 2026) and 9.0/10. We do not score a bare full-size A1. Check the live price. Neither score makes the other machine the wrong buy for the other job.
- Is the A1 on this page the A1 Mini or a bare A1?
- Neither. The Mini is 180 mm and only a related machine. The full-size open A1 we score is the A1 Combo: 256 × 256 × 256 mm, with AMS Lite included, about $399 (price checked Sep 2026). We do not score a bare full-size A1 without AMS Lite, so this page has no button for that listing.
- Does the P1S include multi-color like the A1 Combo?
- Not at the published $549 (price checked Sep 2026). The P1S specs we list say AMS is optional, and the scorecard says combo pricing varies. The A1 Combo includes AMS Lite. We do not list a color unit in the P1S price, so this page has no separate button for an AMS bundle.
- Which has the larger bed, the P1S or the A1?
- Neither. Both scorecards list 256 × 256 × 256 mm. The P1S bed is inside an enclosed CoreXY, so the bed stays put. The A1 Combo bed is the same size on an open bed-slinger, so the bed moves. The Mini, at 180 mm, is the smaller related machine.
- P1S vs A1: which is faster, and which is quieter?
- The P1S card lists a speed class up to about 500 mm/s. The A1 Combo card does not list a speed class, so this page does not crown a faster printer. Neither card lists a decibel figure. The only noise class we publish in this FDM set is the A1 Mini, at a ≤48 dB class, and that number is not the P1S or the Combo.
- Can the P1S print materials the A1 Combo should not?
- Yes, with limits. The enclosure makes ABS and other draft-sensitive filament more realistic than on the open Combo. We do not list a HEPA filter on the P1S. The Combo is for PLA and careful PETG, including color changes through AMS Lite. It is not an ABS printer.
