Magigoo Review and First-Layer Setup Guide
Magigoo Original is the 3D printer bed adhesive for a clean PLA first layer. Spread a thin film, let the part cool, and wash the plate with water. The Bambu liquid glue pen is the second bottle. A Creality PVP glue stick is the cheap spare.

A thin Magigoo film, then a cool release
Wash the plate with water and dry it before the first layer. Finger oil is a common reason PLA lets go of PEI or glass. Spread Magigoo Original in a thin, even film only where the part will sit. A thick puddle makes a worse bottom and a harder cleanup. The scorecard is a liquid applicator for PLA, with release as the bed cools and cleanup in water.
When the job finishes, let the bed cool before you pull. Forcing a hot part off the sheet is how plates get gouged. Reapply after you wash the film off, and when the coat looks patchy. Do not stack fresh glue on a cloudy film. A little goes a long way, which is why this bottle scores 9.2/10 for ease of use, but it is still a consumable.
Set the printer on a sturdy, level surface. A rocking bench shows up as a first layer that is tight on one side and loose on the other. We do not score printer stands or printer tables, so there is no buy button for one. If an open A1 or A1 Mini still curls in a draft, a fabric tent can block dust and moving air. The Panda Shelter on the enclosure guide is that tent, about $79 (price checked Sep 2026), and the A1 and A1 Mini sizes differ. It is not a heated chamber, and it is not a substitute for the film.
Bed adhesives at a glance
Every adhesive below is already scored in our bed adhesives guide. Roles here are for a clean PLA first layer, not a second lab test.

Magigoo Original
$20 often $15 to $25
The clean PLA film. About $20 (price checked Sep 2026), often $15 to $25, overall 8.8/10, ease of use 9.2/10, print quality 9.1/10. It is a liquid applicator, it holds PLA, it releases as the bed cools, and it washes off with water. A little goes a long way. Original is not a nylon or polypropylene adhesive, and it costs more up front than a glue stick.

Bambu Lab Liquid Bed Glue
$14.99 often $10 to $20
The liquid pen when the plate is a Bambu PEI sheet and you want a second bottle. About $15 (price checked Sep 2026), often $10 to $20, overall 8.3/10, ease of use 8.6/10. Less messy than a PVP stick, still a consumable you reapply, and still second to Magigoo Original for a general PLA film.

Creality PVP Glue Stick
$8 often $5 to $12
The spare in the drawer. About $8 (price checked Sep 2026), often $5 to $12, overall 7.5/10, value 9.2/10, ease of use 7.8/10. A solid PVP stick for PLA and PETG on a clean PEI or glass bed. It leaves more haze than Magigoo or the Bambu pen, and you refresh it more often.
Magigoo Original

$20 often $15 to $25

Magigoo Original is the bed adhesive we recommend first for PLA. A thin film holds the first layer, parts release as the plate cools, and water washes the film off. It costs more per bottle than a glue stick and the Original formula is a PLA adhesive, not a universal fix for nylon or polypropylene.
Who it's for
PLA printers who are tired of glue-stick residue on PEI or glass.
Also great: Bambu Lab Liquid Bed Glue
Bambu Lab Liquid Bed Glue
The liquid pen when the plate is a Bambu PEI sheet and you want a second bottle. About $15 (price checked Sep 2026), often $10 to $20, overall 8.3/10, ease of use 8.6/10. Less messy than a PVP stick, still a consumable you reapply, and still second to Magigoo Original for a general PLA film.
Bambu owners who want a matched liquid glue and already know their plate.
Best budget pick: Creality PVP Glue Stick
Creality PVP Glue Stick
The spare in the drawer. About $8 (price checked Sep 2026), often $5 to $12, overall 7.5/10, value 9.2/10, ease of use 7.8/10. A solid PVP stick for PLA and PETG on a clean PEI or glass bed. It leaves more haze than Magigoo or the Bambu pen, and you refresh it more often.
Budget beds and anyone who wants a stick in the drawer for rescue prints.
Glue stick vs Magigoo
Magigoo Original is the our-pick on the bed adhesives guide: 8.8/10, ease of use 9.2/10, print quality 9.1/10, $20 and often $15 to $25. It is the clean PLA film. The Bambu Lab Liquid Bed Glue is the also-great pen: 8.3/10, ease of use 8.6/10, $15 and often $10 to $20, meant for Bambu PEI plates, and it also washes off with water. The Creality PVP Glue Stick is the budget solid stick: 7.5/10, value 9.2/10, $8 and often $5 to $12. That card names PLA and PETG. It leaves more residue and wants a more frequent refresh.
Buy Magigoo if the complaint is glue-stick haze on a PLA printer. Buy the Bambu pen if you already print on Bambu plates and want the cheaper liquid. Buy the Creality stick if a few dollars in the drawer is the job and a cloudy plate is acceptable. None of the three levels the bed. Check the live price on each scorecard before you treat the tracked number as today's price.
Lift a cooled part without scrubbing the film
Water removes Magigoo. A scraper is for lifting a part that still holds after the bed cools, not for grinding adhesive off PEI. The BIQU Panda Edge scraper kit is the scored metal scraper with spare blades, about $16 (price checked Sep 2026) and 8.2/10. Keep the blade flat. Skip it if you are only washing a film. A broader starter case is the printer tool kit guide. If the plate itself is the problem, the textured and smooth sheets we score are on the PEI build plate guide.
BIQU Panda Edge Scraper Kit · $16
About $16 (price checked Sep 2026), overall 8.2/10. Use it to lift a cooled part. Do not use the blade to scrub Magigoo off the plate. Water does that. A sharp edge can gouge PEI if you pry at a steep angle.

Who should skip these
Skip Magigoo Original if the plastic is not PLA
The Original formula on this scorecard is a PLA adhesive. Nylon and polypropylene need a different product. We do not score those formulas, so this page has no button for them. The card also does not promise PETG. The Creality stick is the one that names PLA and PETG, with more haze.
Skip the Bambu pen if you wanted one adhesive for every PLA printer
It is the also-great pick because it is meant for Bambu plates and it is cheaper than Magigoo on most days (8.3/10 at $15, often $10 to $20). If the bed is not a Bambu plate and you want the cleaner cool release, buy Magigoo Original.
Skip the Creality stick if residue is why you are shopping
It is the budget spare, at 7.5/10 and $8, often $5 to $12, and it works. The haze and the frequent refresh are why it is not the our-pick. If a cloudy plate bothers you, spend the extra on Magigoo.
Who it's not for
People shopping for a nylon or polypropylene adhesive, a heated chamber, or a printer stand. We do not score specialty Magigoo formulas, and we do not sell stands or tables. A rocking bench is a placement problem. Glue will not level the gantry. Open-frame ABS is also the wrong job for this page.
Frequently asked questions
- How do you apply Magigoo for a first layer?
- Wash the plate with water, dry it, and spread a thin film only where the part will sit. A thick puddle is not more first layer adhesion. Print PLA, then wait until the bed cools before you pull the part. Wash the film off with water when it looks patchy, and reapply a new thin coat after that wash.
- Glue stick vs Magigoo: which 3D printer bed glue should I buy?
- Magigoo Original if you want a thin PLA film that releases when cool and washes off with water. We score it 8.8/10. The Bambu liquid glue pen if you want a matched pen for a Bambu plate, at 8.3/10. The Creality PVP glue stick if you want the cheapest spare, at 7.5/10, and you can live with more haze.
- When should I reapply 3D printer bed adhesive?
- After you wash the plate, and when a clean, level first layer still lifts at the corners. A fresh thin film beats stacking glue on a cloudy coat. If the same spot fails on a bare plate that used to hold, check the Z offset and whether the printer sits on a sturdy, level surface before you blame the bottle.
- Does the printer need a special table?
- It needs a sturdy, level surface that does not rock when the bed moves. Vibration and a tilt show up as a bad first layer. We do not score printer stands or printer tables, so this page has no Amazon button for one. A normal sturdy table is enough.
- Will a Panda Shelter fix edge lift?
- Only if the lift is a draft or dust on an open A1 or A1 Mini. The BIQU Panda Shelter is a fabric tent, about $79 (price checked Sep 2026), and the A1 and A1 Mini sizes differ. It is not a heated chamber, and a closed tent can warm the electronics. Adhesive is still the PLA film. The tent does not replace a clean plate.
