No AMS
What Does "No AMS" Mean in 3D Printing?
No AMS means the printer or the listing has no Bambu multi-color unit. The printer still works. It prints one spool at a time.

What AMS is
AMS is Bambu Lab's Automatic Material System. It is the multi-color unit, not a spare part we sell on its own. AMS Lite is the version for the A1 line. The A1 Combo includes AMS Lite. The standard A1 Mini does not. The P1S card we score lists AMS as optional, so that card is not the multi-color slot.
We do not score a bare full-size A1, and we do not score AMS or AMS Lite as a standalone accessory. The comparison for color in the box is the multi-color guide. The open Combo against the Mini is A1 Combo vs A1 Mini.
What "no AMS" means
"No AMS" means the printer or the listing has no multi-color unit. The machine prints one spool at a time. You can still change spools by hand between prints. It is not a defect, a missing screw, or a sign the printer failed a test.
We do not keep a list of which store titles use the phrase. On the printers we already score, the same situation is the standard A1 Mini, which does not include AMS Lite, and the P1S card, which does not include AMS.
When you should care
Care when one print should change color, or change material, without you swapping the spool. That job is a multi-color bundle. The A1 Combo is the Bambu we score with AMS Lite in the box. The Anycubic Kobra 3 Combo is a different unit: the ACE Pro, not AMS. That bundle is on the Kobra 3 Combo scorecard, and the head-to-head with an enclosed single-extruder printer is K1C vs Kobra 3 Combo.
When you should ignore it
Ignore the phrase when every job is one color of one material. A standard A1 Mini is still the beginner printer on the beginner guide. A P1S without AMS is still the enclosed printer on the 2026 picks page. Adding a multi-color unit does not help a single spool of PLA.
Who should skip this page
Skip the worry for one spool
If the print is one color of one material, no AMS changes nothing. Load the spool and print.
Skip reading it as a defect
The printer is not broken because the multi-color unit is absent. A single-color box is a normal printer.
Skip a standalone AMS on this site
We do not score AMS or AMS Lite as its own accessory. The unit is in a bundle we already score, or it is optional on that printer's card.
Who it's not for
Shoppers who want multi-color in the box. That is the multi-color guide. This page also does not name store listings that say no AMS.
